Growing Mister Lincoln Roses

The Mister Lincoln rose is a varietal of red tea rose, and can be easily grown in your own home or landscape setting.  This rose is widely considered by rose gardeners to be amongst the most fragrant of all the tea roses. Red roses continue to be the most popular and in-demand of all cut flower arrangement roses. The Mister Lincoln rose is a popular choice because of its hardiness, fragrance, and color vibrancy. The Mister Lincoln rose bears a famous ancestry, as it is named after President Abe Lincoln. Requiring surprisingly little care once its rose bushes are established, the Mister Lincoln rose is a great choice for beginning gardeners who are seeking a fragrant, delightful addition to their gardens.

Preparing to Plant Mister Lincoln Roses

Mister Lincoln roses prefer a location that receives several hours of direct sunlight daily, and soil that has excellent drainage. Mister Lincoln roses will grow well in USDA Plant Hardiness Zones 5 through 9. Mister Lincoln roses can tolerate a variety of soil types with pH ranging from 4.5 to 8, but will appreciate some added sand, loam or clay where possible.

Planting and Caring for Mister Lincoln Roses

As Mister Lincoln roses grow, they will need frequent watering and irrigation. A thick protective layer of mulching should be maintained at all times to reduce the threat of pests and growth of weeds and lock in moisture. If all goes well, Mister Lincoln roses will begin to show blooms in early springtime, and will continue throughout the summer season. Rose-specific fertilizer should be offered each spring before blooming begins to encourage more blooms. As blooms begin to fade, it is important to deadhead the bush to encourage more new blooms to appear. Pruning should be done immediately after bloom season is complete.
